It's a pleasure to formally introduce myself to Newcastle fans reading this from across the region and beyond. I'm Aaron Stokes and I recently took over the position as Newcastle United editor at The Chronicle.
Ever since I took the decision to pursue a career in sports journalism during my school days, covering Newcastle United on a daily basis has been my dream. A Geordie boy born and bred, I spent my younger years on the terraces of St. James' Park where my passion for football and NUFC first blossomed. I even have a commemorative plaque on the floor outside the Milburn Stand which reads - 'Aaron Stokes. Born to it.'
More recently I left the region for the first time, moving to London for five years to work on Reach PLC's national titles and gain editorial experience in a fast-paced sports newsroom. Leaving the northeast was a tough decision but one I relished.

However, the chance to come home and cover this wonderful football club at such an exciting time was one I had to grab with both hands. The takeover has reinvigorated the entire region and promises a truly unprecedented future for the club. It is an honour to be joining the The Chronicle at such a monumental time in Newcastle's history.
A good chance for me to meet you all in person is at our Newcastle United live event on Thursday April 7. Hosted by Andrew Musgrove, this is a must-attend event for any Toon fan.
The panel consists of myself, chief sports writer Lee Ryder, NUFC writer Ciaran Kelly and the Daily Mirror's Simon Bird. We will discuss all things to do with the club, sharing our insight on the new ownership, Eddie Howe, the turnaround in form and the plans going forward. You will get the chance to ask the panel questions and share your thoughts on the club. Please send all your questions to theeibwpodcast@reachplc.com ahead of the event.
We will also be hosting a quiz and a raffle, with some signed NUFC shirts to give away to the winners. Tickets can be snapped up for just £5 per person and all proceeds will be going to the NUFC Fans’ Foodbank.
As someone who volunteers at The People's Kitchen in the heart of Newcastle, I have seen first-hand how crucial services such as the foodbank and other food charities are to the region in the current climate. So come and chat with us while supporting a truly great cause. I look forward to seeing you at the event next Thursday!
