An entire street in Cardiff is up for auction with a guide price of £900k

There's a main road through Cathays, one of the main student areas of Cardiff, that is usually busy with traffic as a direct way into the city centre, and meandering university students coming and going from lectures and socialising.

That route to the city centre is Colum Road but not many people realise that about half way down this street is a tiny side street called Colum Terrace, tucked away from it all and now offering arguably one of the most unusual and exciting property auction lots to go under the hammer.

It is a unique street because it is literally just made up of three terraced houses and it is a unique property auction because for sale are all three homes.

It's the chance for a new owner to literally buy a whole street with no other homes on the small side road and only a university faculty building opposite for company. The trio of bay fronted period properties that comprise the whole terrace on offer are numbers two, four and six Colum Terrace.

Number two is a four-bed house at the end of the terrace nearest Colum Road and has a small rear garden that is currently overgrown. On the ground floor there is a standard layout of two reception rooms and a kitchen with four bedrooms and a bathroom to be found on the first floor.

Number four is the mid terrace house in this trio of properties and has a larger garden that again needs some attention and the layout inside mirrors that of its neighbour, with two reception rooms, kitchen, four bedrooms and a bathroom to discover inside.

There are currently no internal photographs available but the auctioneer selling the row of homes states that numbers two and four are in need of full internal refurbishment and modernisation throughout.

The whole terrace is owned by the vendor who lives at the other end of the row at number six, and this well-loved home has been well maintained and improved over the years, though the auctioneer says it would now benefit from some improvement and modernisation throughout.

The fact that a whole row of terrace houses are going to auction with a guide price of £900,000 is surprising enough, but this auction lot is one that just keeps on giving, because as part of the sale is a another row of three - this time a terrace of garages but only two are included in the sale.

And one last bonus that surely no-one is expecting to find at a house in a tiny street hidden away in a busy suburb - a disused swimming pool in the garden of number six.

Due to buying the adjacent land, number six has a garden large enough for a swimming pool - now disused but which could be brought back to life, you can see it in the top left of the garden in this aerial shot (Seel & Co Auctions)

The garden of this property is a very good size and can happily accommodate this surprise bonus which, with some attention, could be reinstated, and this is due to the vendor some years ago purchasing land to the side of the house resulting in doubling the garden's size.

Huw Edwards, head of property auctions and auctioneer at Seel & Co, which is selling the terrace, said: "This is a very unique property auction lot indeed, offering three homes within walking distance to the city centre and the university as well as Bute Park.

"The sale also offers the chance to pursue a number of options for the future of the terrace including renovating and updating all three or developing the trio to provide more homes. The current owners have registered a planning application for the extension and conversion of the houses and garages into 14 units."

As three private dwellings there is the opportunity to live in one and rent or sell the others, giving you the unusual chance to decide who your neighbours are going to be, rent and sell them all, or have the whole family move to the street with a different house for different layers of the family.

To find out more about that application, pending decision, go to Cardiff Council's website planning portal and search for reference 22/02943/FUL. And to make sure you don't miss any amazing properties going to auction in the future, sign up to the property newsletter here.

The terrace is going to online auction on Seel & Co's website with bidding opening at noon on Monday, July 10, and closing at 5.57pm on July 11, with a guide price of £900,000. For further details call 029 2037 0100.
