In Foreo's glossary, UFO stands for Ur Future Obsession rather than Unidentified Flying Object, while the company's name comes from "FOR EveryOne''.
In 2018, the Swedish beauty-tech powerhouse introduced the world's first smart mask gadget -- the UFO that does look like a miniature spacecraft.
"The product is shaped like a UFO, which represents our alien technology," said Sladan Mujdzic, general manager of Foreo (Thailand).
Several technologies have been compacted into the upgraded UFO 2, hailed as an engineering masterpiece by Mujdzic. The hand-held device delivers thermotherapy, cryotherapy, LED light therapy, and T-Sonic Pulsations for an intensive treatment, comparable to a spa facial that can be expensive and time-consuming.
"Instead of a 20-minute session, we can cut it down to two minutes for an at-home supercharged facial while getting faster and better results with UFO 2," said Mujdzic.
Foreo was founded in 2013 by Filip Sedic, who is inventor-in-chief and heading a team of R&D professionals collectively known as the Foreo Institute.
Its debut skincare device, Luna, is the world's first soft silicone facial cleansing brush. Bear is the world's first FDA-cleared microcurrent device with an Anti-Shock System to help combat signs of ageing, while Espada with blue LED technology is clinically proven for acne-prone skin.
For delicate skin around peepers, Iris rejuvenating eye massager is inspired by Asian lymphatic drainage techniques.
"Foreo devices are designed to help enhance and amplify existing skincare products and routines through technology," he said. "We can compare this to exercise, which you can do by jogging in the park or going to the gym, where various equipment better helps you achieve fitness goals."
He gave an example of how hands can't perform what the new-generation Luna can do in removing impurities and massaging the skin.
The signature massage technology, T-Sonic Pulsations, is featured in every Foreo device. The 'T' stands for transdermal as the gentle pulsations travel through the skin's outer layers and help temporarily open pores, which facilitates the penetration of active ingredients. The low-frequency massage further improves blood flow and relaxes muscle tension points.
The upgraded UFO 2 provides the fundamental T-Sonic massage along with the heat that pushes the active ingredients of the UFO Activated Masks deep into the skin. The gentle heat is alternated by cryotherapy, which makes the skin appear firmer and lifted.
"Through online product reviews and direct conversations with customers, feedback from users of the first UFO was employed to modify the smart mask gadget," said Mujdzic. "Like upgrading a car, we improved the motor to provide more powerful delivery of our thermo- and cryo-therapies. It delivers heat to the skin five times faster than the original UFO and at an optimal temperature range of 5C to 45C. Likewise, cryotherapy instantly cools the skin."
UFO 2's full-spectrum LED light revitalises and refines the complexion, with the eight different colours offering various benefits for personalised treatment.
The at-home facial can be run via the Foreo For You app, through which each technology can be selected and adjusted to accompany the UFO Activated Mask, which is secured to the device with an attachment ring.
Along with beauty devices, Foreo has been developing skincare products such as cleansers, serums and the UFO Activated Masks concentrated in hyaluronic acid, collagen, pearl extract and many other vital skincare ingredients.
"We will introduce a new range of skincare products that complement the Foreo devices," he said. "You can get spa facials and cosmetic procedures, but the at-home routine is crucial in maintaining healthy skin. Like brushing your teeth, you need to take care of your skin daily."
Mujdzic noted how self-care also involves oral care, which is another expertise for Foreo, whose toothbrushes are also powered by Sonic Pulse technology.
The third-generation Issa 3 is the world's first silicone sonic toothbrush that functions as a four-in-one device for complete oral care while offering 16 intensity levels for a personalised brushing experience.
The hybrid brush head is made of ultra-soft medical-grade silicone and sturdier PBT polymer bristles. The high frequency allows the bristles to pulsate up to 11,000 times per minute, resulting in powerful strokes to remove dental plaque without harming tooth enamel or triggering gum irritation.
The brush head also makes it ideal for massaging gums and cleaning the tongue and cheeks.
