For the 44th time, riders and horses from around the world have come to central Kentucky. The Kentucky Horse Park once again is playing host to the Three-Day Event.
The Land Rover Kentucky Three Day Event presented by MARS Equestrian is one of only seven five-star three-day events worldwide. Three Day Press Chief Marty Bauman said this year’s competition is bursting at the seams with record ticket sales and sponsors. Bauman said it traditionally features the best riders and horses.
“We have Yasmin Ingham, the reigning world champion from Great Britain. Zara Tindall from Great Britain, and of course she’s competing here this weekend and then flying back to England for her uncle’s coronation next weekend,” said Bauman.
Bauman said patrons have varying ideas on how to enjoy the four days of competition. He cites cross-country as an example.
“Some people like to go and set up at one location and watch all the horses jump back, like the head of the lake is the most popular complex of jumping. And some people say we’ll watch a few horses here and then we’ll move to another location and watch there. Everyone has their own plan,” said Bauman.
The competition schedule is consistent the last weekend in April. Dressage runs Thursday and Friday, cross country on Saturday, and show jumping on Sunday.
