'An absolute shambles': Manchester Airport passengers blast 'atrocious' scenes amid more huge queues

Furious passengers at Manchester Airport say they have been treated like 'cattle' with as huge queues plagued the terminal once again this morning.

Users have taken to social media to vent their frustrations about the latest issues in getting through the airport. It comes as Chris Woodroofe, the terminus’ new Managing Director, told the MEN that flyers this summer should expect an experience ‘considerably better than it was three or four weeks ago’.

Mr Woodroofe did however say that the airport would not be offering 2019 levels of service, and would not be ‘as good as we want it to be’. Airports and airlines across the country have been hit by chaos throughout 2022.

That chaos has been seen in Manchester once again today (July 1). “Absolutely awful trying to get through Manchester Airport terminal 2 this morning,” Sam Dicken tweeted. “I reckon start to finish it would be 3.5-4 hours to get through security but everyone being pulled out to make flights.”

Mr Dicken added the hashtags ‘carnage’ and ‘cattle’ to his tweet. He was not alone in his complaints, either.

Lottie Moore added: “I take it all back. Manchester Airport is an absolute shambles. Miles [of queues] for everything, bare shelves, rubbish everywhere as the bins are full. No wonder it’s voted one of the worst airports in the WORLD.”

And another Twitter user, Mollands80, also described a stressful experience. They said: “Absolutely atrocious this morning. Two-and-a-half hrs to get through security. People opening barriers and queue jumping. Absolute carnage.”

User WinnWinn69 added: “This is the queue to get in to the security queue at 6.30am this morning. Manchester Airport, how long is this going to go on before you get your act together?”

However, some passengers had a smooth ride through the terminus. Donna Eastham-Price said it took her ‘45 mins [to get] through check in & security’. Mike added: “Just got through check in and security with fellow passengers needing assistance. Everyone has been very helpful and polite in a business-like manner. Was dreading it, but although busy it went very smoothly.”

A statement from the Airport this morning said: “We apologise to any passengers whose experience at Manchester Airport this morning was not how they would like it to be.

“During our ongoing recovery from the pandemic, we continue to advise customers there may be some times when security queues are longer than usual, which is why we advise people to arrive three hours before their flights.

“This morning, while the vast majority of people passed through security in under 30 minutes, waiting times peaked at more than 60 mins in one of our terminals for a period of time, and we are sorry for any inconvenience caused.”
