Amy Winehouse biopic will ‘nail’ singer’s sense of humour, says Mark Ronson

The much-hyped Amy Winehouse biopic starring Marisa Abela recently wrapped filming after bringing parts of Winehouse’s native Camden to standstill. The latter part of filming took place in New York city, where Winehouse recorded some of her hits like Back to Black. Her New York-based friend, musical collaborator and producer Mark Ronson has revealed his own small involvement in the making of the film, which is expected next year.

“They were shooting in New York, and I think it was the very last day of shooting, and Sam and the actor that plays Amy came in and they wanted to see the studio. The studio I’m in right now is where we wrote Back to Black and did all the demos. I think it was a nice sort of closing the circle for them on the last day of filming, coming through and seeing where Amy actually did some of this stuff. But other than that, I’m not involved in the movie.”

“I am good friends with Sam Taylor-Johnson, the director,” Ronson told Vulture. “She told me when she was making the film, and I read the script, and I really loved … One of my favourite things about Amy, and I think anyone who knew her knew, was her sense of humour was just so wonderful and extremely sharp and cutting,” he said, “obviously, you know from listening to her lyrics, she’s just razor-sharp. So it really nailed a lot of her deadpan, which I really loved.”

Ronson’s latest project was putting together the Barbie soundtrack.
