AMY Macdonald performed at a surprise pop-up gig in Glasgow city centre today.
The singer, from Bishopbriggs, delighted a packed crowd of hundreds in Princes Square.
Taking to the stage, Amy beamed at the crowd and said: “Who’s all taken the day off sick then? Next time they say the economy is s***, it’ll be my fault, eh?
“I remember going to see Travis do something like this outside of Buchanan Galleries, and my mate pulled a sickie but ended up on the news, which was a bit awkward.”
Amy, 37, got the crowd singing along and clapping instantly as she started by belting out her hit Mr Rock & Roll.
Her song The Hudson from her last album, The Human Demands, was followed by rapturous applause from the audience.
Amy's new single, Is This What You’ve Been Waiting For, rang out through the beautiful Princes Square halls as the sun poured in.
Her number one hit This Is the Life received the biggest cheer, with a chorus of shoppers and fans singing along before she rounded off the short set with Statues.
Speaking with the Glasgow Times, Amy laughed about the weirdness of the show: "Yeah, it's random as hell. I've obviously been here loads throughout my life, but I never thought I'd be doing a gig here!
“It’s like its own wee Shepherd's Bush Empire with all the tiers.
“It’s nice to do things like this for a lot of people who maybe don't get to a lot of gigs and things like that. So being able to just do something and go, 'Everybody's welcome,' was so nice.”
Amy couldn’t resist a quick “shameless plug” for her upcoming new album Is This What You've Been Waiting For, which is out this July.
She also pleaded with the crowd to “spend their pennies” on tickets for her show at the Hydro in December.
Tickets for the show go on sale next week for what will be her second time headlining Glasgow’s largest indoor arena, having sold it out in 2022.
