Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden has been inundated with messages of support from the BBC show’s presenters and fellow dancers after suffering blood clots amid her cancer treatment.
The professional dancer, 33, announced in May that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer and later revealed that she had undergone a mastectomy.
The Caerphilly-born celebrity said doctors had found another type of cancer and she has since been documenting her experiences, hoping it will raise awareness and encourage others to check themselves.
On Wednesday, Dowden provided her social media followers with an update, having recently revealed that her second round of chemotherapy had led to hair loss and said that she has blood clots but is “feeling good”.
Taking to Instagram, Dowden posted a photo of herself in a hospital bed wearing a cap, giving a thumbs-up and wrote: “And I’m going home to my own bed! Thanks again to the marvellous NHS!
“Got some blood clots but I’m feeling good other than a sore and swollen arm. Another hurdle along this journey. But again forever grateful to the NHS and my heroes around me.”
After sharing the update, the BBC star’s post was filled with well wishes from her fellow pros as well as former It Takes Two presenter Zoe Ball, who wrote: “heaps of healing love darling girl xxx”.
Following Ball’s lead, Strictly dancer Gorka Marquez commented: “You got this Amy” alongside two red heart emojis.
“Sending love Amy,” penned fellow pro Kai Widdrington while Jowita PrzystaÅ, who won the BBC ballroom stalwart last year with Hamza Yassin, shared: “love you!”
Graziano Di Prima shared several red love heart emojis under the update as pro Nancy Xu Xi posted several purple love heart and kiss face emojis.
Former Strictly contestants also shared their support to Dowden with 2019 contestant Michelle Visage said: “YOU GOT THIS, WARRIOR” while 2021 alum John Waite commented: “much love to you Amy”.
Dowden joined Strictly Come Dancing in 2017 and was a finalist four years ago with presenter Karim Zeroual.
She married professional dancer Ben Jones in July 2022.
