Amy Broadhurst and Tina Desmond to fight for gold medals after winning European semi-finals

Amy Broadhurst will fight for gold on Saturday after winning her European Championships semi-final.

Broadhurst faced the tough task of Sara Beram from Croatia in her semi-final and showed her class throughout.

In a bout that did not go all her own way, Broadhurst was still the comfortable winner in the eyes of all five judges.

Showing patience throughout, the Dundalk woman was up 10-9 in the first two rounds scored by all judges.

And the 25-year-old managed to stay composed for the final three minutes to earn victory.

Tina Desmond will also fight for gold on Saturday after a comprehensive semi-final victory.

Taking on Melissa Gemini, Desmond was in control from the start.

Similar to Broadhurst, she scored 10-9 on each of the judge's scorecards for the first two rounds.

And Desmond showed her class in the final round to successfully navigate her way into the final.

It has been a mixed bag for Irish fighters with some seven semi-finals taking place.

Shannon Sweeney narrowly lost out in her semi-final bout to Sevda Asenova of Bulgaria in the first fight of the day.

Olympian Michaela Walsh was not able to overcome the woman who beat her in Tokyo, Italy's Irma Testa.

It was a close affair with many believing that Walsh could have easily been crowned winner in what was a scrappy contest.

Caitlin Fryers, Kellie Harrington and Aoife O'Rourke will all fight later in the day.
