Kids, don’t try this at home…
Lions All-Pro wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown made an admission on the debut episode of the “Receiver” series on Netflix that sounds painful just to describe. St. Brown says he tore his oblique muscle in the Lions’ Week 3 win over the Atlanta Falcons.
As in, “tore completely off the bone.”
Yet St. Brown didn’t miss the Week 4 game against the Green Bay Packers. As he said himself,
“Painkillers is something that I really don’t like to take unless… unless it’s the Packers.”
St. Brown missed the Week 5 game after having the MRI diagnosis on his oblique tear, which is the muscle that runs on the outside of the ribs under the resting arms. It was the only game he missed.
He also revealed he had hand, foot and mouth disease when the Lions beat the Raiders in Week 8. “Played that whole game with blisters popping” on his hands and feet, “Receiver” proudly noted.
St. Brown also had a toe injury early in the season that required a special shoe insert to keep the toe stable. He did not miss any time due to that one.
All those crazy maladies didn’t stop St. Brown from catching 119 passes for 1,515 yards and 10 TDs and earning his first All-Pro nod. That’s toughness epitomized, both physical and mental.
