Amir Khan claims he turned down more money from Eddie Hearn for Kell Brook fight

Amir Khan has claimed that he turned down a deal worth more money from Eddie Hearn to instead fight rival Kell Brook on Sky Sports.

The British star will take on his domestic rival in a grudge match which will be held on February 19 in Manchester.

A clash between the pair has been several years in the making with both fighters now ready to settle the rivalry which will be broadcast on Sky Sports Box Office.

Khan felt that this platform was crucial to any fight with Brook and rejection of an offer from Hearn proves he has made the fight for the fans.

“To be honest with you I have got the money and mansions and I buy everything I want when I want too," Khan said during a media call. "I have made more money in other fights than I have in this one with Kell.

"For Kell to say that it just shows that bitterness and jealousy he has. I am doing this for the public. No disrespect to Sky but I was offered more money by Eddie Hearn for this fight.

"But I turned that down and obviously it was up to me with what TV deal and promoter I go with and I feel Sky's the best platform for people to see this fight.

"If it was to do with the money I would have definitely gone with Eddie Hearn. But then that means less people are going to see the fight.

"I'm doing this for the public, because it's what they want. If I don't take this fight, people will always say to me 'but you didn't fight Kell'. He says he's going to beat me and do this and that, I hope he tries to. But I just don't see him doing anything."

Khan has been out of action for over two years since his victory over Billy Dib while his rival was stopped by Terence Crawford at the back end of 2020.

The pair clashed at a face-off to confirm the long-awaited duel last year which will be fought at a catchweight of 149lbs.

With animosity clearly continuing between the pair, Khan claims he felt he had the upper hand in the build-up by pointing out Brook's "shape".

“Look with me I’m a sportsman and there is bad blood but to be honest with you I don’t know where it started from," Khan said. "We know that after a fight he goes out on a p***-up and goes missing for a couple of weeks.

"He has put on loads of weight. We saw the difference in the two of us. He looked unhealthy and as if he had come off from a night out. You look at the skin colour, shape and you know who the real fighter is.

“We have very similar styles but I don’t think he has the same work rate or speed as me so I feel I have the advantage over him. I don’t think he has a chin and punch resistance is gone, and I feel he is doing this fight for a payday."
