Amir Khan and his family leave UK because they don't feel safe after robbery

Amir Khan has said that he has moved his family to Dubai because they feel safer there. Former boxer and I'm A Celebrity star Amir said a robbery last year where his watch was stolen at gunpoint had left him "scared".

He confirmed in an interview with Good Morning Britain that he had made the move with wife Faryal Makhdoom and their children, reports Birmingham Live. In the interview, he said the robbery "felt like a lifetime but it probably only lasted 10 to 15 seconds", adding that he thought about his family in those moments.

He continued: "I thought if he is going to shoot, I need to look away. I'm very picky now where I go. I pick and choose what time I go to places and make sure that sometimes I take security with me if I go to a very busy place.

"But it's made it a little bit difficult to just travel on my own or with my family to places where I would not normally go. I am a little bit scared now when I go to different places."

Amir added: "When you have a family, you have children, you start to think differently - you're doing it for them. I just want to make sure I'm going to be safe. I want to see them grow up."

On moving abroad to the UAE, he said: "It's a lot safer for me. Living abroad, being abroad. I just feel a little bit safer bringing my kids up and taking them out there. I have no fear.

"It did shock me a little bit and put me in a lot of fear. I feel a lot more comfortable when I'm over there."

Speaking more about the robbery, he said: "I remember him having the gun on the side of my head, I could feel it and obviously I looked back at my wife. She ran back onto the road, she's probably the best thing that ever happened. I'm lucky she was there."
