Kyle Hamilton isn’t just one of the best safeties in the NFL. He’s one of the best overall players, regardless of position.
ESPN polled NFL executives, coaches, and scouts, and the result ranked Hamilton as the second-best safety in the league. Pro Football Focus also rated the 23-year-old Notre Dame product no. 2 among all safeties.
Meanwhile, CBS ranked the third-year defensive back as the 36th-best overall player. With all this widespread praise, you wouldn’t think Hamilton would have any critics or doubters left.
However, the Sporting News has found at least one, as an anonymous league executive told them Hamilton “doesn’t fit the bill for everyone.”
However, This specific executive said that Hamilton works fine for the Ravens and what they like to do. This is a bit of a back-handed compliment, which is essentially criticism.
No player is perfect, and everyone has flaws and weaknesses in their game. Some observers and pundits think Hamilton lacks speed.
Hamilton has been at or near the top of all the respective rankings and lists throughout his career.
This has held true at every level.
The son of a professional basketball player (Derrick Hamilton), who starred in Europe for over a decade and a half, athleticism was always in his blood.
In high school, Hamilton was an elite-tier, 5-star recruit. At Notre Dame, he was a freshman All-American and, during his junior year, a consensus All-American.
On draft day in 2022, Baltimore took him 14th overall, making him the first safety off the board. In 2023, he was a Pro Bowler and first-team All-Pro.
If he’s “not for everybody,” whatever that is supposed to mean, then who is?
