Despite American markets plummeting after President Donald Trump implemented worldwide tariffs this past week, Trump touted his brand-new ‘Gold Card’ worth $5 million USD ($8 million AUD) to reporters while onboard Air Force One.
“For $5 million, this could be yours,” Trump said to the media on Friday.
“You know what that card is? It’s the Gold Card, the Trump Card.
“It’ll be out in about less than two weeks, probably. [Does] anybody want to buy one?”
The gold card features Trump’s face and offers wealthy foreigners the opportunity to gain residency in the States.
Any internationally-born individuals also won’t have to pay taxes to the US government on any income they make overseas if they buy the card.
US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick announced that 1,000 Gold Cards have already been sold, raising $5 billion USD ($8 billion AUD) in one day.
The Gold Card has sparked questions about the ethical fairness and equity, although some individuals believe that card purchases may help relieve US debt, per Forbes.

When asked by reporters about the possible negative impact international tariffs could have on America’s economic stability, Trump stated that it was to be “expected”.
“Well, I mean, it’s to be expected where this is a patient that was very sick,” Trump said to the media.
“We really inherited a terrible economy, with a lot of problems.
“It’s gonna be a booming country… It’s going to be amazing, actually. We see it because we have trillions of dollars committed to come in.”
Trump’s tariffs have resulted in the Dow Jones Industrial Average dipping 2,054 points, while more than 500 companies suffered a loss of over $4 trillion USD ($6.5 trillion AUD) — including those owned by tech billionaires.
Meta and Apple are both down by 9 per cent, while Elon Musk’s Tesla plunged by almost 6 per cent.
