As summer temperatures soar across the United States, many Americans are feeling the effects of extreme heat on their daily lives and finances. A recent poll conducted by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research sheds light on how extreme heat is changing people's routines and perceptions.

The survey revealed that about 7 in 10 Americans have experienced the impact of extreme heat in the past five years, with a majority citing a noticeable increase in their electricity bills during the summer months. For individuals like Levena Lindahl from North Carolina and Jim Graham from Arizona, the rising cost of cooling their homes has become a significant financial burden.

Furthermore, the poll highlighted that extreme heat has disrupted various aspects of daily life for many Americans, including sleep patterns, outdoor activities, and even pet care. Individuals living in the West and South regions reported a higher incidence of sleep disturbances and exercise routine disruptions due to extreme heat.

Concerns about climate change were prevalent among those surveyed, with a majority attributing the increase in extreme heat to climate change. However, there were differing opinions on the causes of climate change, with some individuals like Mario Cianchetti from Arizona installing sustainable technologies in their homes to combat rising energy costs.

Despite the impact of extreme heat on daily life, the poll also indicated that a significant portion of Americans remain divided on the issue of climate change. While a majority believe that climate change is happening, opinions on the primary causes vary among different political affiliations.

Overall, the findings underscore the widespread impact of extreme heat on Americans and the growing concern about climate change's role in exacerbating these weather patterns. As temperatures continue to rise, individuals are increasingly seeking ways to mitigate the effects of extreme heat on their lives and finances.
