Americans drinking tea for the first time told they're 'doing it wrong'

Over in the United States of America, they're well known for their love of coffee. Tea, once branded a 'traitor's drink' was boycotted as Americans fought back from colonialism.

Now, over 250 years later, coffee remains the staple drink in the US, reports YorkshireLive. But YouTubers Jon and Laura from Davenport, Iowa, have stepped forward to try their first sip of Yorkshire Tea.

The food blogging couple tried it 'straight' without milk or sugar and then added what Laura called 'cream' (which is really just blue milk). 'Super excited' Laura, who was trying Yorkshire Tea for the first time, said: "It has a nice flavour".

Jon said: "It tastes like a good black tea...I like it without the milk so far." Laura enjoyed it a lot more with a spoonful of sugar and some milk. "I like that a lot," she declared. "I like it. I don't want to say I'm surprised so much."

Both bloggers said they could imagine having a 'cuppa' in the afternoon and finding it 'relaxing'. Jon added: "It's the first time I have had milk in tea - it's good."

Laura joked: "We finally had a cuppa, Jon. It's something we might do more."

The couple's YouTube channel is called Love and Junk Food and has more than 6,000 subscribers. But not all agreed with the way they had prepared their brew.

Some of their followers were quick to claim that they might have made one or two mistakes in their tea preparation. Alan Minter said: "I was horrified when you left the teabags in so long.

"The longer you leave it, the stronger and bitter it gets. Most tea scientists say 2-3 minutes."

CazYaz said: "Dear god...cream? No, no no." Others said they had done a fine job. Tony Walker posted: "That looked like a proper cuppa, you did a good job."

Others brought up their use of the term 'steep', saying they should really say 'brew'. Perhaps Americans will now bury the hatchet and learn to love a bit of British tea.
