American YouTuber heading to Glasgow on a tour of Scotland’s biggest food challenges

An American YouTuber has arrived in Scotland, ready to take on food challenges in Glasgow.

Randy Santel has nearly 1.5 million subscribers on his YouTube channel, where he regularly uploads videos of him and his partner taking on mammoth-sized portions across the world. On August 5, he’ll be visiting Porto PiriPiri in Glasgow.

He’ll be dining at the south side eatery, competing in the ‘undefeated cheeky chicken challenge’ where he’ll be tasked with diving into an array of different chicken wings and side dishes.

Speaking on his Instagram account, the pair said: “Friends all around Glasgow, Katina and I will both be at Porto PiriPiri in Glasgow each taking on their currently undefeated ‘cheeky’ chicken challenge.

“There is a 45 minute time limit to feast on everything shown in the photo. I’ll most likely go first and then Katina will take the challenge after me. We’ll get there one hour early to set up and start the meet and greet, we look forward to meeting everyone there.”

On previous visits to the city Randy has taken on a 27” inch pizza at Toni’s, a burger and nachos challenge at The Ark, and a triple burrito feast at Taco Mazama at Central Station.

Speaking to the Daily Record in 2015, he gave his top tips for smashing a food challenge: “Pizzas are more difficult than burgers because it’s carbohydrates instead of protein.

“The trick is to eat the middle of the pizza first, and leave the crusts until last. You want to eat the cheese while it’s still warm, soft and delicious, not cold and hard.

“Around 60 to 70 per cent of food challenges are burgers, so it’s good to have the chance to branch out.”

While this is now the couple's sixth visit to Scotland, he announced the trip could be their last - adding that he is not the ‘young stallion’ he used to be. Randy continued: “We do three or four challenges a week which is a lot. We digest our food and keep it all down and it’s hard on the body.

“We’re finishing this trip in the middle of September and the plan is to have a long break.”

The duo haven’t announced any other challenges they’ll be taking part in - though the city is teaming with delicious, if slightly daunting, mountains of food.

Over at Lebowskis, the Big Daddy Banquet can be yours for free - if you finish the lot. Included on the plate is one Big Lebowski Burger, six hot wings, cajun mac and cheese with pulled pork, coleslaw and double fries.

Topshki’s, known for their mouth watering offerings, has a similar challenge. If you can finish 30 of their boneless wings, six mozzarella sticks, and a kilo of cajun fries - it's yours for free.
