American tourist in Edinburgh has locals scratching their heads with whisky choices

An American tourist who travelled to Edinburgh last weekend has shared her surprise at being able to find her favourite brands within stores in the capital.

But resident Scots were not impressed with her choices of beverage in the short clip.

Kaitlin, who lives in London, had been on a trip to Auld Reekie and says that she was "shocked" to find bottles of Buffalo Trace and Eagle Rare in Edinburgh shops in a TikTok video.

The video, which has been viewed almost 50,000 times, showed up on her channel that boasts 13,600 followers on Sunday April 9.

The clip is hilarious, and although the spelling of whisky with an 'e' is a crime potentially punishable with exile from Edinburgh, it shone a light on how difficult it can be to get certain types of alcohol stateside.

In the post, Kaitlin says: "Okay so I’m an American currently in Edinburgh Scotland this weekend.

"And of course this is a giant whiskey city so there’s just whiskey every single place I look.

"And so we went into a shop and I was shocked. So if you are an American you will understand but it was crazy to be able to see bottles of Eagle Rare that you could just buy. You could buy bottles of Blanton’s which was crazy.

"You could buy bottles of Buffalo Trace like just out of the store, like there wasn’t a secret person or you had to know a guy to get these bottles. You just buy the bottles here.

"In America that s*** is so hard to find. So anyways for my American whiskey lovers just drive on up to Scotland. Fly to Scotland they got it here."

Some could not understand why an American would want to focus on American whiskies when they could enjoy the single malts that are in plentiful supply in the capital.

One person commented: "'Or if you're in Scotland you could just buy good stuff...ye know like Scotch." Whereas someone else said: "'Never heard of any of them."

Whilst another added: "We don't have an 'e' in our whisky!"
