American TikToker left 'shaken' after man tries to enter UK Airbnb while she's alone

An American tourist was left shaken on a trip to Edinburgh when a man tried to get into her Airbnb flat.

Kelsey Hansen was staying alone at the Airbnb in Abbeyhill when she heard a knock at the door and went to ask who it was.

Being careful not to open the door, she shouted out "who is it?" and listened out for his response, reports Edinburgh Live.

"My apartment was on the very top of the building. No way out and reason for anyone else to be there," Kelsey told her followers on TikTok.

"On this night I was by myself getting ready to go meet up with a friend and there was a knock on my door.

"There was no peephole so I yelled through the door 'who is it?'

"I didn't open the door or even entertain that idea but this man didn't tell me what he was there for or his name and I asked him repeatedly.

"All he wanted was for me to open my door, which I did not do.

"After around three minutes of this back and forth of me asking why he was there, he left and sounded really angry and was stomping down the stairs."

Kelsey decided to stay in a hotel for two nights following the unnerving ordeal and now wants to purchase a door handle alarm for any future travelling.

"It left me a little shaken so I called the non emergency hotline to report it just in case he was doing it to other people and I stayed in a hotel for two nights," she said.

Speaking about her overall experience spending one month in the Scottish capital, Kelsey said she felt very safe overall.

"It was very fun and an experience I will never forget," she explained.

"However there was one thing that happened that I wanted to talk about and what I would maybe do next time and bring with me to to make me feel safer in general."

Kelsey shared her experience in an emotional video on TikTok about her solo travels where she recommended the city to others around the world.

But she said there was "one thing" she had to mention before revealing what had happened that day.
