Since taking over in 2018, Brian Gutekunst has drafted 10 wide receivers. Among that group, seven of them competed in the Senior Bowl.
Last week we looked at the National team’s wide receiver group and weeded out the ones that could be targets for the Green Bay Packers as they look to add talent to that group.
With Senior Bowl practices slated to start on Tuesday, January 26, let’s look at the wide receivers on the American roster.
Jalen Royals, Utah State
A former track athlete, Royals is a dynamic playmaker. He’s shifty in space and has runaway speed to create explosive plays. Despite having his season cut short due to a foot injury Royals still racked up 436 yards after contact in seven games.
Chimere Dike, Florida
Dike has a large catch radius with his frame and spears the ball away from his frame. Dike has sound footwork in and out of his breaks to create separation and runs hard after the catch. With his frame and competitive toughness, Dike could be a Day 3 target for the Packers.
Bru McCoy, Tennessee
With his frame, physical nature and willingness to get after it as a blocker, McCoy is likely to be one of Matt LaFleur’s favorite wide receivers in this class. He uses his body to box out defenders and is comfortable making catches in a crowd.
Jack Bech, TCU
A former tight end, Bech is a big-bodied wide receiver who will remind some Packers fans of Jordy Nelson. The former LSU tiger enjoyed a breakout season for TCU this past season, catching 62 passes for 1,034 yards and nine touchdowns.
Stanford’s Elic Ayomanor was originally slated to be on the roster but is no longer listed on the Senior Bowl roster. The Stanford wide receiver could be a Day 2 target for the Packers.
