American stunned by size and scope of massive Poundland store

An American living in the UK couldn’t help but hide her amazement after visiting a massive Poundland store. TikTok user Niki @inikimouse shared a short video of her doing a tour around the Peterborough shop, which boasted a homeware selection, the brand’s own clothing range, an aisle dedicated to alcohol and a fresh food aisle where customers can buy meal deals.

MyLondon reports that at the beginning of the TikTok, Niki admitted she thought the shop was a “joke”, because she couldn’t believe how “dirty” the name sounded. In the video, Niki said: “I remember when I first moved here and I saw Poundland, and I thought it was a joke because it sounded dirty but it’s not. And this one is massive.

“They have all the basics when you walk in like toiletries and cleaning products, but there’s so much more. I didn’t know that Poundland had their own home décor brand and it’s called ‘Pep & Co’. But they also have a whole massive clothing line which was insane.

“And most of this stuff didn’t feel too bad, in my opinion. There was this little lounging set, which I’ll show in a sec, it was so soft and it was £16.”

The TikToker went onto explain how there were also changing rooms, which she said she “wasn’t used to seeing” in the shop. Niki continued: “The prices didn’t look too bad either, which was kinda nice. I absolutely had to have these Mickey and Minnie kitchen rolls, my favourite.

“So many snacks, and there was a whole aisle dedicated to liquor, which I’m not sure is normally in Poundland, but I’m not sure. A massive wall of Haribos, my favourite gummy worms right there! Chilled food and there was even meal deals, which I’ve never seen in a Poundland before, but maybe I’m just blind. Fresh sausage rolls!”

Niki’s video has clocked up over 1.1 million views, 107,900 likes and 1,741 comments. A few Brits were slightly confused at how the word “Poundland” could sound dirty, as one wrote: “I have never heard the name Poundland in a dirty way until now.”

Another asked: “Poundland sounds dirty?” While a third said, “I've known Poundland all my life and now I can't unhear it being dirty… thanks”, as a fourth joked, “How dare you say Poundland sounded like a dirty name. You have hurt the British legacy.”

Others were amazed at the giant convenience shop, praising Niki for sharing its existence on TikTok. One viewer wrote: “Big Poundland? I’m mind blown.” A second commented: “It’s where I get my secret clothes that people compliment and I can be like POUNDLAND! And there like whaaatt.”

Although there were some who criticised the shop for upping its prices, saying, “I remember when Poundland was acc Poundland now it's Poundland plus”. A second agreed: “The good ol days when Poundland actually only sold things for a pound.”
