The American sprinter Tori Bowie died due to complications in childbirth, according to an autopsy report.
The 32-year-old was found dead in her home last month and the cause of death was not released at the time.
The autopsy report from Orange County Medical Examiner Office said that she was eight months pregnant at the time and died in the process of giving birth. It said that her death could potentially have been caused by respiratory distress and eclampsia.
The news was confirmed by her agent Kimberly Holland, who said that previous speculation over her death had been “very hurtful”. She told CBS News: “So hopefully, now knowing the truth, there will be many apologies.”
The former long jumper converted to being a track sprinter back in 2014. She won three Olympic medals during her career: a relay gold at the Rio Olympics in 2016 as well as silver and bronze in the 100 and 200 metres respectively at the same Games.
In addition, she won two world titles on the track: as part of the USA 4x100m relay team in London in 2017 as well as the individual title in the 100m at the same championships.
