An American new to the UK found their visit to a local Sainsbury's a real eye-opener. MyLondon reports that the woman with the user name carla.rayy shared on social media her experience of a trip to the supermarket and her shock at the deals.
Posting on TikTok, Carla shared her thoughts on UK supermarkets: "I just moved to the UK from America and I'm obsessed with the grocery stores here. For £2.50 you get noodles, veggies, and a sauce. £3.50 chicken, £4.25 for a steak."
Carla zoomed in on a Sainsbury's trolley full of goodies like pasta and wine. She even included some British classics like digestive biscuits and Branston pickle. Carla said: "This is my full shopping for a week and I only spent £50. And this is for two people, mind-blown."
Shoppers were quick to comment, with many suggesting that she try Aldi or Lidl next. "Always shop Aldi," wrote one devotee of the discount supermarket. "And that’s Sainsburys! Wait 'til you shop at Aldi," added another.
One shopper even suggested a shop at Aldi or Lidl could be more entertaining: "Lidl or Aldi so much cheaper, plus added bonus you can laugh at the really close knock-off names."
Another declared the "true bargains" would be found in "Farmfoods, Aldi, Lidl and Iceland". Carla responded to the helpful shoppers by promising to visit an Aldi: "Not sure I've been to Aldi yet, will definitely have to check it out."
