American foodie questions the purpose of HP Sauce after seeing it on US shelves

One of the things that makes the world such a diverse place is the different cultures and traditions that you find from country to country.

And for those visiting or making the move the UK, there are a number of culture clashes to discover. From trying a highly-touted Wetherspoons to munching their first ever sausage roll or pasty from Greggs - there are so many culinary experiences to be had.

However, one stateside citizen didn't even have to cross the Atlantic to be confused by one much-loved British favourite.

The Daily Star reports that after wandering the aisles of their local supermarket, the American found themselves eyeing up the 'European section' of the grocery store. Among other British and mainland Europe delicacies, they become intrigued by HP Sauce, that they had 'always' wanted to try.

Although, the American was not too sure how to use the mighty HP Sauce and so took to Reddit for some help. Taking to the UK Casual SubReddit, they explained: "American here - have always wanted to try this stuff and finally found a bottle in the European section of our grocery store. What the hell do I do with it?"

It didn't take long for Brits to pipe up with HP Sauce pairings - some more useful than others, though. One person mocked: "Find someone who prefers tomato ketchup and start an argument with them," while another, added: "Use as a tasty condiment with sausages or bacon. Some people also add it to sandwiches."

A third voiced: "It's most commonly used for cooked breakfast items. Like on a full English or in a breakfast bap," while a fourth chimed in: "Slap it on a fry up mate."

Meanwhile, a fifth shared: "Try it on a bacon sandwich. And now I'm drooling."

With suggestions taken on board, the American tried it as a dip for sausage and fries (chips). The US native, continued: "So I put it on sausage and the side of fries. Wasn't a big fan of the fries, even tried adding mayo (I usually dip my fries in mayo and ketchup), still not a big fan...

"BUT I absolutely freaking loved it on the sausage. I'm excited to make some bacon sandwiches this weekend try it on those."

Having tried and liked the HP Sauce, the American set their sights on another UK loved condiment.

"Next goal is to try Coleman's Mustard," they said.
