American Detained In Russia Released After Trump Administration Talks

President-elect Donald Trump arrives

An American citizen, Marc Fogel, who had been detained in Russia since 2021, has been released following successful negotiations between the Trump administration and Russian officials. Fogel, a history teacher working at the Anglo-American School in Moscow, was serving a 14-year sentence after being arrested at a Russian airport for possession of drugs, which his family claimed were medically prescribed marijuana.

Fogel's mother, Malphine Fogel, expressed immense relief and gratitude towards President Donald Trump for keeping his promise to secure her son's release. She met with Trump before a rally in Pennsylvania last year, where he assured her that he would bring her son home.

Malphine Fogel described the joy and surprise she felt when her son called her from the Moscow airport, indicating that he was on his way back to the United States. She expressed her gratitude not only to President Trump but also to Secretary of State Marco Rubio and others involved in the case.
