LAS VEGAS — Advanced Micro Devices on Monday announced new desktop processors for the nascent category of high-end personal computers called AI PCs. AMD stock jumped on the news.
AMD introduced its Ryzen 8000G Series desktop PC processors on the eve of the CES 2024 tech trade show in Las Vegas. The chipmaker said the Ryzen 8000G Series processors are built for intensive applications like gaming and content creation.
The new desktop PC chips also are optimized for local AI workloads, AMD said.
On Dec. 6, AMD unveiled its Ryzen 8040 Series processors for notebook AI PCs.
AMD, Intel Pitch AI PCs At CES 2024
At CES 2024, PC makers including Acer, Asus, Lenovo, HP and Razer will be showing off laptop computers powered by AMD's Ryzen 8040 Series chips. CES 2024 officially opens Tuesday and runs through Friday.
AMD's latest desktop and mobile processors for AI PCs incorporate a neural processing unit.
"AMD continues to lead the AI hardware revolution by offering the broadest portfolio of processors with dedicated AI engines in the x86 market," Jack Huynh, senior vice president and general manager of AMD's Computing and Graphics Group, said in a news release.
Rival Intel had scheduled an open house for late Monday at CES 2024 to discuss its strategy for AI PCs.
AMD Stock Is A Tech Leader
Also Monday, AMD debuted new processors for mainstream desktop PCs, the Ryzen 5000 Series. The Ryzen 5000 and 8000G series products will be available on Jan. 31.
Plus, AMD introduced its Radeon RX 7600 XT graphics card. It is meant for demanding PC games and for content creation, the company said in a news release. The graphics card will be available on Jan. 24.
The three models of AMD's Ryzen 8000G Series processors are priced at $179, $229 and $329. The company's Radeon RX 7600 XT graphics card costs $329.
AMD stock is on the IBD Tech Leaders list.
On the stock market today, AMD stock rallied 5.5% to close at 146.18.
