The Amboori grama panchayat will observe a dawn-to-dusk hartal on Monday in protest against the draft notification for the proposed Eco-Sensitive Zone (ESZ) around the Neyyar and Peppara wildlife sanctuaries.
The hartal has been called by an action council that was formed during an all-party meet called to discuss the fallout of the Centre’s notification on Friday.
Chaired by Amboori grama panchayat Valsala Raju, the council’s patrons include Parassala MLA C.K. Hareendran and district panchayat member R.K. Ansajitha Ressal. While expressing concern over the proposed regulation in the region, the all-party meet decided to intensify agitations and to impress upon the Central and State governments the need to relax restrictions. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Amboori and Kallikkadu grama panchayats, parts of which will come under the zone.
10 out of 13 wards
Mr. Hareendran told the gathering that the State government stood for excluding inhabited areas from the purview of any forest law. According to Ms. Raju, 10 out of the 13 wards that were inhabited by nearly 25,000 people will come within the ESZ that could restrict normal life in various ways.
