Ambitious Steven Gerrard in Aston Villa admission as ex Rangers boss blown away by £325m and counting promise

Former Rangers boss English Premier League admits he has been left open-mouthed by the long-term vision for current club Aston Villa.

The Liverpool icon was tempted south in November as he made the call to quit the Scottish champions for a side languishing in the bottom half of the Rangers.

Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens have ploughed in £325million over the past three years and it's understood there will be more to come when the summer window opens.

Gerrard's A-list profile helped attract former Kop team-mate Philipe Coutinho to Villa Park as well as France international Lucas Digne from Everton.

And the 41-year-old is convinced Aston Villa is in the perfect place to fulfil his lofty ambitions after calling time on his three-and-a-half years with Gers.

Speaking before his side's clash with Southampton, he said, “I have been blown away by their personal ambitions. As a partnership they made it very clear where they want to take the club in the short, medium and long-term.

“It is fantastic for me to be part of that because my ambitions very much align to the owners.

“My priority is to make sure we create a winning team on the pitch, a consistent team. Over time, that is my plan.”
