Oliver Glasner has warned he is not looking to maintain the “status quo” at Crystal Palace.
The 49-year-old replaced Roy Hodgson at Selhurst Park in February and vowed to bring goals to the club after a difficult season under the former England manager.
Though Hodgson’s initial return to his boyhood team had seen them pull away from last season’s relegation battle, supporters vented their frustration about the lack of ambition from their owners before Glasner’s arrival this time around.
Glasner has since overseen three games in charge of the Eagles, though is without a win since his first game in the dugout when his new side beat Burnley 3-0.
Palace hope his drive, intensity and tactical nous makes him the ideal candidate for the job and the Austrian arrives with good pedigree, having won the Europa League with Eintracht Frankfurt.
Glasner was linked with the likes of Tottenham and West Ham before replacing Hodgson and has made it clear he has lofty ambitions about his time at Palace.
“I told the people in charge that if it’s okay for them to continue to finish 16th or 17th and not get relegated, then I’m the wrong manager for that,” he told German outlet Kicker.
“I don’t want to maintain the status quo. I want to develop something without tying it to a spot.
“At the end of the day, winning this or that title is not so important to me. I derive more personal satisfaction from making the people in and around the club happy. That’s what sticks. That’s why I want to be a manager.
“Trophies tend to come last, they are nice, yes, but it’s the journey there that’s special. These moments, this feeling of happiness, that’s what drives me.”
Palace host Nottingham Forest on Saturday after the international break and currently sit in 14th place, eight points above the relegation zone.
