Ambitious £15 million expansion plans at prestigious Perthshire hotel and golf estate are withdrawn

Ambitious £15 million plans to add dozens more rooms and leisure facilities to a prestigious Perthshire hotel and golf estate have been withdrawn.

Stellar Murrayshall LLP submitted an application for Planning Permission in Principle (PPP) in April 2021 for the wider diversification of facilities on the Murrayshall Country Estate near Scone.

The proposals included an extension to the hotel, spa and leisure facilities, an outdoor pursuits area, glamping units and lodges, as well as some housing and upgraded staff accommodation.

A separate application for the relocation of the driving range has also been submitted.

However, Murrayshall Country Estate general manager Gary Silcock confirmed in a letter to a local councillor that they have withdrawn the application first made in April 2021 with “a view to reconsulting the local community in the coming months” following a review of the proposals and feedback from stakeholders.

Mr Silcock added: “We are confident that the diversification of the estate will have a positive effect on the local economy and we look forward to positively engaging with local residents and stakeholders to refine the proposals.

“A separate application for the relocation of the driving range has been submitted and a decision is expected in the coming months.

“The proposal seeks to sensitively relocate the driving range, so it is better connected and closer to the existing hotel infrastructure.

“The associated expansion of the facility will create new jobs, primarily through the addition of a Golf Academy and will benefit members, visitors and the local community by delivering an enhanced golf experience.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has had a detrimental impact on both the hospitality and tourism sectors, as well as the wider Perthshire economy.

“Nonetheless, we remain fully committed to invest, create jobs and provide an outstanding hospitality service and leisure facilities for the community and visitors to the area.”

Built in 1664 Murrayshall dates back over 400 years.

Murrayshall House was modernised in the 18th century and in 1973 the estate was transformed into the luxury hotel it is today.

The land spans over 365 acres, encompassing woodland, part of the River Tay, two parkland golf courses and stately gardens.
