Amber Barrett hailed as a 'special individual' after Late Late Show appearance

Amber Barrett has been praised as a 'special individual' after her appearance on Friday's Late Late Show.

Barrett was Ireland's World Cup hero when they beat Scotland in their playoff last October.

And poignantly, it was Barrett who scored the winner and she dedicated her goal to the victims of the Creeslough tragedy.

The Donegal native's grandparents are from Creeslough and touched on the tragedy and her goal when on the Late Late Show.

Barrett could be seen gesturing towards the black armband after scoring, immediately remembering the victims.

She told Ryan Tubridy: "There was a silence that fell in Hampden Park. Obviously, an Irish girl scoring in Hampden isn't going to be celebrated very well.

"The silence that for me gave me that connection to me to the armband and it wasn't going to be that crazy celebration in the corner.

"Instantly it was the first thing that came to my head".

And speaking about her connection to Creeslough, she said: "Outside my home Milford, Creeslough is my second home.

"I spent most of my childhood there, my Granny ad Grandad were there and loved going down to see my Granny and Grandad and spent a lot of my time and childhood in there with my brothers as well.

"Not just thinking about Creeslough in terms of now, I know that if my Granny and Grandad were still alive that would have been the filling station they would have went to collect the pension and paper.

"It doesn't just hit home because of that but because of the deeper thoughts as well".

And viewers were full of praise for Barrett with one viewer saying: "Amber Barrett is a credit to our country, on the field and off. What a role model for young girls".

While another said: "What a special individual Amber Barrett is. Well said".

And another added: "Well put Amber, powerful stuff #Latelate".
