Amazon workers vote to continue strikes for another six months

Amazon workers have voted to continue to strike in their ongoing dispute with the online retail giant over pay. The GMB union said that members at Amazon's Coventry site had backed the strike by 99% on a turnout of 54%.

It comes after the union said that almost 800 Amazon workers walked out on Wednesday. It was the 19th day of industrial action since the dispute started.

Senior organiser Amanda Gearing said: “The vote for six more months of strike action at Amazon Coventry shows these workers are in for the long haul. These workers are angry, they know their rights and they will not go away.”

GMB members have met MPs in Parliament in an attempt to gain support for their campaign of industrial action.

Unions that wish to carry out industrial action have to hold a fresh ballot every six months. The ballot asks members if they wish to continue to take action.
