Whether it’s a gym session in the midst of a heatwave, cooking in the kitchen when it’s absolutely roasting, or the inescapable humidity when working from home, I often really struggle through the summer months. But I’ve found an Amazon device that helps me beat the heat - and has had my whole family begging me to order them one.
I had been on the hunt for a bladeless fan to take on a holiday to Portugal. I was specifically after a bladeless fan following an unfortunate run in with a portable fan as a child - yes, I’m still traumatised - and I came across the NinetinGel Neck Fan.
Benefitting from a hands-free design, this neck fan offered a combination of some of the best reviews, a reasonable price and fast delivery time, and it truly couldn’t come soon enough - I get super agitated when it’s too hot, so quick cooling comfort was absolutely key.
Usually £29.98, the fan is currently reduced to £18.98 ahead of Amazon Prime Day, with a voucher for 30 per cent off which takes it down to £13.29 at the checkout. All you have to do is tick the little box under where the price is displayed.
The fan comes in white, black, blue or green, so I opted for the lime shade to add a pop of colour to my outfits. It comes neatly packaged with a USB cable, which you can plug in to any USB plug to charge.
Mine was already charged when it arrived so I could test it out straight away. At first I thought it was absolutely rubbish and wasn’t giving me any respite from the heat at all - then I realised that I’d had it upside down rendering it pretty useless.
Once I realised it needed to be hole-side-up, it was bliss. The neck fan offers three speeds for an immediate cooling effect, with a battery life of four to 15 hours depending on which setting you keep it on, which is ample for the amount of time I’d be using it each day.
With a flexible rubber arm, it sits comfortably around necks of any size without slipping, and is lightweight with a discreet design that almost looks like a pair of headphones, making them more fashionable than clunkier options.
The wind is blown upwards towards the face, offering relief from the heat, and being hands-free, it means you can get on with other tasks without needing to hold it, too.
The fan has received a 4.1 star rating out of five based on over 100 Amazon reviews, many of which praise the fan for keeping them cool in the summer months.
One said: “I brought one originally as a gift and ended up using it. I brought two of them since, one for myself and one for my partner. They are very light around the neck and can be worn comfortably with every outfit I have worn so far.
“On max power it can be kind of loud depending on what you are doing at that moment but regardless in this heat it’s not louder than my living room fan so I have no issues, charges very fast and lasts hours for continuous use. The longest I’ve used it on the lowest setting off charge seven hours straight and it didn’t die or lose power. I’ve not needed to use the second or third setting as the lowest does the job.”
Everyone who’s tried my fan has said they wanted one for themselves, so I hope they all know what they’re getting for Christmas. My mum has already ordered one to help ease symptoms of the menopause, like other shoppers have suggested.
One added: “My neck fan is absolutely amazing. It was recommended to me and I have recommended it to so many women who asked me what it was. So there will be a glut of orders on Amazon. Great also in this hot weather. Helps cool you during hot flashes of menopause. Cannot fault it. Absolutely brilliant.”
The main complaint from shoppers has been the noise level on the highest setting, but I’m more than willing to let that slide for how effective it is. Moreover, I haven’t really needed to use the highest setting, because the lowest is powerful enough to keep me cool.
The Amazon neck fan is the ultimate summer companion, and has been a real godsend in the recent heatwaves, so I’m hopeful that it will keep me comfortable during my trip abroad later this month.
I love that you can take it anywhere in the hot weather, and I always get asked about it when I’m out, with people very impressed by its sleek design. I love that it’s so stylish compared to other neck fans, like this one on Amazon, and that it’s bladeless, so I won’t have to worry about getting my hair caught in it, either.
