All of which makes for an ideal option for youngsters aged 6-12 years.

It comes with three months free Kindle Unlimited as well as one year of Amazon Kids+ content bundled into the purchase, offering thousands of age-appropriate books and audiobooks, videos and apps that can be used as soon as you set up the new tablet.

What's more Amazon includes a choice from a range of colourful protective cases as standard but, if the worst does happen and it gets damaged, a two-year worry free guarantee means the firm will replace it for free.

The tablet has been rated 4.6 stars out of 5 by reviewers on Amazon, with many customers flagging up how the long battery life of up to 13-hours paired with the ability to play games and watch videos without needing wifi makes it perfect for keeping kids distracted which travelling.

One five-star reviewer said the tablet offered 'hours of age appropriate entertainment and great battery life.' She added: "Easy to take with you on the go and excellent customer service - it was water damaged and they replaced it with a completely new one without any problems!"

Amazon has slashed prices on tablets of all kinds ahead of Prime Day not just the children's models, with shoppers looking for the newest and most powerful Fire 11 Tablet able to get it reduced by £110 just one month after UK launch.

Meanwhile, the firm's cheapest tablet, the Fire 7 16Gb is down to £44.99 as part of the sale - and as Mirror reviewer James Ide points out just because it's lower budget doesn't mean it's not worth buying - especially if you have other gadgets that you can rely on for some of your digital heavy lifting.

He said: "The Fire 7 tablet shouldn't be overlooked as a support device for those who primarily use their mobile or laptop to do heavy work and gaming, leaving this to be a light and useful device just for reading and watching films and TV." You can read the full review here.
