Creators and stars behind Amazon Prime's The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel have hinted the show could return in the form of a spin-off series.
The period drama-comedy centres around Miriam "Midge" Maisel, a young housewife living in 1950s New York, played by Rachel Brosnahan. When Midge is dumped unexpectedly by her failed comedian husband, she embarks on a stand-up career of her own.
Season five, follows Midge from the 1960s all the way to 2000s, as she is hired as a writer on a TV show in a last-ditch attempt to achieve fame. Despite the show’s continuing popularity, it was confirmed by Amazon Prime over a year ago that this would be the final series.

Showrunner Amy Sherman-Palladino and her husband, executive producer Daniel Palladino, revealed that the plot of season five created a natural ending for Midge and the drama’s other characters. Speaking to the Hollywood Reporter, Mr Palladino said: “We knew exactly where we wanted to end. And we just sort of like knew that these are our last markers that we wanted to hit towards the ending.”
However, there may be further adventures to come from the show, which began in 2017. While no spin-offs have currently been confirmed, he said he would be open to exploring further stories with the current stars.
Praising the show's actors ahead of the new season, he said: “We would like to work with any of these people, either in a Maisel thing or a non-Maisel thing because they’re just so great. “They’re so diverse in their talents, and my sense is that we’re going to be working with them a lot over the next eight years — then we’ll expire again in another eight years.”
A leading cast member has also expressed enthusiasm on a potential spin-off. Alex Borstein, who plays Midge’s manager Susie Myerson in the series, said she would welcome playing a more leading role in a related series.
She told The Wrap: “Whatever Amy Sherman-Palladino wants to do — and if I am invited to the party — I am there. I’m there early, and I will be the last guest to leave.”
She added: “If Amy Sherman-Palladino were to say, ‘let’s explore Susie more,’ I would absolutely trust her that there’s something worth telling.”
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is available to stream on Amazon Prime. All nine episodes of the final season are available to watch now.
