The release of new Amazon Prime Video drama The Devil's Hour is just around the corner, with a London premiere for the new series taking place on Tuesday, October 25. The six-parter is the brainchild of Tom Moran - a relative newcomer, who has worked with the team behind the BBC's Sherlock to produce this psychological thriller.
The new series tells the story of Lucy Chambers, who wakes up every night at 3.33am - the so-called 'devil's hour' between 3am and 4am. When Lucy’s name is linked to a murder case, she sets out on a long and dangerous path that sees her uncover answers that have been evading her, her whole life.
But just who is in the cast of the new series, what is the plot and when can you watch the series? Here's everything you need to know about The Devil's Hour.
When can you watch The Devil's Hour?
The Devil’s Hour will be available exclusively on Friday, October 28 on Amazon Prime Video.
Who is in the cast of The Devil's Hour?
Jessica Raine plays Lucy Chambers
Call the Midwife's Jessica Raine leads the cast as Lucy Chambers - a dedicated social worker, daughter and mother who wakes up at 3.33am every night. Adding to her stresses, Lucy has a distant husband, a troubled child and she is started to see things - All of which implies that she seems to be on the verge of a mental breakdown.
Whilst Raine is perhaps best known for her role as Jenny Lee in Call the Midwife, she has also had roles in Line of Duty, Doctor Who, An Adventure in Space and Time and Baptiste.
Peter Capaldi plays Gideon Shepherd
The show's secondary lead is Doctor Who star Peter Capaldi, who plays Gideon Shepherd - A nomadic criminal who believes he can predict the future. Gideon is the prime suspect in an ever-growing serial-killer murder case and becomes the sole target of a police manhunt.
Aside from his iconic role as the Twelfth Doctor, Capaldi is also known for playing the sweary Malcolm Tucker in The Thick of It. He has also had roles in the Paddington films, The Musketeers and recently appeared in DC blockbuster The Suicide Squad.
Nikesh Patel plays DI Ravi Dhillon
DI Ravi Dhillon is the man tasked with solving the murder case and early on, pins all his hopes on tracking down the suspected recluse, Gideon. Interestingly though, the sight of blood and death really unnerves him.
The character is played by Nikesh Patel, who has previously appeared in the likes of BBC Three's Starstruck and the mini series, Four Weddings and a Funeral.
Benjamin Chivers plays Isaac
In his first onscreen credit, Benjamin Chivers plays Isaac, Lucy’s troubled son. Isaac is is devoid of emotion – an empty husk – like a picture someone has forgotten to colour in.
Meera Syal plays Dr. Ruby Bennett
The Kumars' Meera Syal appears as Dr. Ruby Bennett - A talented and compassionate child psychiatrist who becomes fascinated by Isaac’s case.
Meera has made countless TV appearances over the years. She rose to prominence as one of the team that created Goodness Gracious Me and portraying Sanjeev's grandmother, Ummi, in The Kumars at No. 42. She has also been in the likes of Broadchurch, The Split and Netflix's The Sandman.
What is the plot of The Devil's Hour
The official plot for the new series reads:
"Lucy Chambers wakes up every night at exactly 3:33am. Her eight-year-old son, Isaac, is withdrawn and emotionless. Her mother, Sylvia, speaks to empty chairs. Her house is haunted by the echoes of a life that isn’t her own, and nothing has made sense for a long time.
"Lucy has spent so long taking care of other people that she has forgotten how to take care of herself. Only in the silence of the devil’s hour – while she lies in bed reflecting on disturbing dreams – is she forced to consider her own deteriorating mental state. The strange sense of déjà vu that has haunted her since childhood is now manifesting in visions of a violent future – waking nightmares she has never understood but can no longer ignore.
"Meanwhile, DI Ravi Dhillon is investigating a string of brutal murders in the area that might connect to a high-profile cold case from ten years ago. Intelligent, sensitive and unsettled by the sight of blood, Dhillon is the right man in the wrong job. When Lucy’s name is linked to his case in a most unusual way, the two strangers must learn to trust each other as they confront every dark impossibility their suspect can throw at them.
"Lucy might think this is the worst thing she has ever experienced, but this is only the beginning. A long and dangerous path lies ahead of her. Somehow, she knows this already. And if she can only see beyond the confines of her perceived reality, the answers that have been evading her all these years will finally come into focus."
