Irish holidaymakers are being warned to stop using popular summer products like a paddling pool from Amazon, bikes, and travel adaptors.
The summer season is nearly upon us, and while many of us have plans to go on holiday or to simply stay home and enjoy the sunshine with temperatures forecast to reach 24C this June bank holiday, certain popular products are being urgently recalled. The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) has issued a warning over a paddling pool sold on the Amazon website, bicycles and fendersets also sold on Amazon, a hair dryer sold on eBay, and three types of travel adaptors.

The Bestway Paddling Pool from Amazon
According to the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC), a safety issue has been identified with Bestway Paddling pool sold on the Amazon platform. It has been urgently recalled over safety fears caused by a dangerous chemical that may be harmful.
The CCPC said: "The plastic material of the product has an excessive concentration of phthalates. These phthalates may harm the health of children, causing possible damage to the reproductive system."
The brand is Bestway, and the ASIN number is B002CIKZ12. The batch number, barcode and model are unknown.
The product was sold online through the Amazon platform, and there are approximately 204 of these products sold in the Republic of Ireland. A notice from the CCPC urges parents and guardians to immediately stop using this product, and to contact Amazon to see if it is possible to get a refund via your user account on Amazon.
Sweep and Grandurance Bicycles and Fendersets
There has been an urgent recall for a number of bicycles over injury fears. In a recall notice, the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) said that the risk presented by these products is injuries.
"The front fender bracket can break without warning which can cause a blockage of the front wheel. This bracket which attaches the front fender to the fork crown can break under pressure. This can lead to a fall of the cyclist resulting in bruises and fractures."
The affected models are listed above in the images from model years 2020 – 2022. The serial numbers of the affected bikes are known and the serial number can be checked via the recall app, which can be found here, to see if the bike is affected.
The serial number can be located as shown in the image below. There are approximately 109 affected products in the Republic of Ireland.
Kemey hairdryer
Many people opt to bring along a hair dryer on their summer travels, but the CCPC has issued a risk of fire warning over Kemey hair dryers which are sold on eBay and AliExpress platforms. The CCPC notice reads: "The product presents a serious risk of fire as the plug and fuse failed to meet the requirements of the relevant safety standard."
The brand is Kemey, and the model number is KM-8896. The barcode is 6955549388963, while the batch number is unknown.
It is understood that three affected products have been sold in the Republic of Ireland via the AliExpress platform. The number sold by the eBay platform is unknown, however, given the online availability of this product, it may have been sold to customers in the Republic of Ireland.
A CCPC spokesperson said: "If you purchased one of these products, please discontinue use immediately and discard the product. You may wish to contact the eBay seller or AliExpress to see if there are any remedies available to you."
Homidec Telescopic Ladder sold on Amazon
Some people like to do DIY work over the summer months, and the CCPC has issued a warning over a ladder sold on Amazon. The risk associated with this product is injuries, as it cannot hold the weight advertised.
The CCPC notice reads: "The product’s weight limit was not accurate and the product could not hold the weight advertised without collapsing. This could cause serious injury from falling from the fully extended height of the product."
The brand is Homidec. The ASIN numbers are B09P5891YP, B09P58PVVG, B09P59H3B9, B09P5BXD21 and B09P5CNFKH. The model and barcode are unknown.
This product was sold on the Amazon Platform, and there approximately 292 affected products in the Republic of Ireland. If you bought one of these products, Amazon is advising that you should stop using it and discard it.
You may wish to contact Amazon to see if there are any remedies available to you, and this can be done via your user account on Amazon.
Travel adaptors
The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) has issued a to consumers in Ireland concerning three travel adaptor products - one sold in Harvey Norman, one bought from Amazon and another available in several retail outlets. These travel adaptors have been recalled due to "serious issues" which includes a risk of electric shock.
G&BL Universal Multitravel Adapter
JDM Products Limited is carrying out a recall of G&BL Universal Multitravel Adapter, purchased in Harvey Norman in Ireland, from which 1,222 affected products in the Republic of Ireland have been purchased. Consumers have been asked to stop using it.
The brand is G&BL, and the type/number of model is Art. 6769. The bar code is 8011884067692, and the batch number is unknown.
Homesafe Universal USB Travel Adaptor
Homeline has recalled the Homesafe Universal USB Travel Adaptor manufactured from 2021 to 2022, of which 6,040 affected products in the Republic of Ireland have been purchased from various retailers. The warning says: "The product presents a risk of electric shock. The socket shutters can be opened without a plug being inserted making live parts accessible."
The type/number of model is MMTA01/JL153. The affected batch number is BT1887, and the barcode is 5391529360023.
WELLY enjoy IT universal travel adapter
The final travel adaptor being recalled is the WELLY enjoy IT travel adaptor which is sold on Amazon, with 50 of these affected products purchases in Ireland. The warning says: "The risk presented by the product is electric shock."
The type/number of model is WY13100, and the ASIN number is B07DRP4NND. The barcode is 8054392613845.
