Amazon launches Ring smart doorbell and Echo Dot deal ahead of Prime Day

With the summer holidays coming and people spending more time away from home, it's the perfect time to consider a smart doorbell and Amazon has launched a special £50 deal with everything you need to get started.

Smart doorbells not only allow you to see who's knocking at your door - whether you're home or not - but means you can talk to them. With some models you can also save the video footage, making it a cheaper way to effectively get CCTV coverage of the front of your home, ideal for keeping an eye on things while you're away.

Ring are the market leader in smart doorbell tech but, with the gadgets varying widely in price from £49.99 for an entry-level model up to £349.99 for the top-of-the-range version, it's often difficult to know where to start.

Gadget lovers can often pick up a deal on Amazon Prime Day, which this year takes place on July 12 and 13, and looks set to see the tech giant offering its best bargains of 2022 so far.

But with Amazon already producing a Ring bundle for shoppers looking for the peace of mind of a smart doorbell, if you're looking for an entry-level bundle you might want to snap it up right now.

You can currently get a Ring wired video doorbell bundled together with an Amazon Echo Dot (third generation) meaning you can use Alexa to control your new doorbell. The bundle costs £49.99 which, with the Echo Dot's RRP at £39.99 is a significant saving.

The wired doorbell can be installed into any compatible existing doorbell wiring or shoppers can buy a plug-in adapter at an additional cost to plug it into a standard electrical socket. The doorbell includes a 1080p HD video camera with two-way talk facilities, advanced motion detection, high definition night vision features and customisable privacy settings.

By linking it to the Alexa device you can receive instant notifications as soon as anyone either presses your doorbell or triggers motion sensors near your camera. As well as controlling your doorbell with the Echo Dot you can integrate with other elements of your home with compatible devices including turning on lights or adjusting central heating thermostats.
