Amazon Freevee: everything you need to know about the free streaming service

Amazon Freevee logo.

One of the biggest free streaming services on the web is Amazon Freevee, which is known as a FAST service (Free Ad-Supported streaming Television). This means that you can enjoy a variety of live channels and also a large library of classic and new TV shows, and instead of paying for a subscription, you just have to watch ads before or during your show or movie.

Formerly known as IMDb TV, Freevee is one of many popular free streaming options like Pluto TV, The Roku Channel, Tubi or Plex; but don't confuse it with Amazon's Prime Video, because you do have to pay for that.

Whether you're drawn to Freevee for its big originals like the Neighbours reboot, Bosch: Legacy or Jury Duty or its massive library of older classics (the list of which various by region), here's everything you need to know about the free service.

What is Amazon Freevee?

Owned by Amazon and building off what IMDb TV had started, Freevee is a free streaming service that offers a slate of original programming with a continuously updating library of movies and TV shows across a wide variety of genres.

As a Free Ad-Supported streaming Television platform, Freevee is, as its name implies, free and requires no subscription and allows users to watch all of their content on demand, as well as select live channels. Freevee is available as a Prime Video channel or as a standalone app.

Ads will play intermittently throughout a program, similar to what would happen when watching TV normally. You can tell when they'll show up, as the duration bar at the bottom of the video window will show a little yellow mark.
