Amazon donates £5000 to volunteer-run Lanarkshire community group

A Coatbridge charity is £5000 richer following nominations of support from Amazon employees at the company’s Development Centre in Scotland.

The volunteer-managed Kirkshaws Neighbourhood Centre supports the community through a range of services and activities including over 65s IT training, an employment programme and community cooking classes.

The donation from Amazon will go towards the continuation of its centre programme, which features the likes of community cooking classes, an after school club, a holiday playscheme for youngsters, and support to the group's employability training programme for the long-term unemployed.

Willie McBride, project manager of Kirkshaws Neighbourhood Centre, said: "We are very thankful for this support from Amazon. As a volunteer-run organisation, we rely on support like this to continue offering our services to the community.

"Thank you to everyone at Amazon for this donation.”

Coatbridge MSP Fulton MacGregor also welcomed the gesture, telling Lanarkshire Live : "I would like to express my thanks to Amazon employees whose nominations allowed Kirkshaws Neighbourhood Centre to receive this incredibly generous £5000 donation.

“Kirkshaws Neighbourhood Centre is a vital community asset which helps my constituents across a wide range of fields.

"Cooking classes, first aid courses, playgroups, art classes, IT training, and employment training are but some of the resources offered by the diligent volunteers at the centre.

“This substantial donation will ensure these classes continue into the future which is a huge benefit to those living in Kirkshaws and beyond.”

Oliver Masting, managing director at Amazon Development Centre Scotland, added: "We are pleased to make this donation to Kirkshaws Neighbourhood Centre.

"The programmes and services the volunteers provide are vital to the local community and I hope this donation helps the charity continue to make a difference.”
