‘Amazing support’: Thelin excited for taste of Premiership football at Pittodrie

Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin is eagerly anticipating his inaugural home league match this Sunday, with Pittodrie set to host a bumper crowd.

The Dons, having secured victories in all four of their Premier Sports Cup group stage matches, aim to build on their opening Scottish Premiership win against St Johnstone as they prepare to face St Mirren in the Granite City.

Supporters are being urged to arrive early due to a planned display to welcome the Aberdeen team onto the pitch.

Thelin was staying humble at his unbeaten record so far, but knows the importance of keeping the smiles on the faces of the Red Army.

“I heard there is around 17,000 fans coming to Pittodrie on Sunday, it’s amazing," the Aberdeen boss said.

“Of course we got some feeling of it in the cup games and now it is our first league game at home and there is going to be a lot of people there and a lot of supporters and fans.

“I hope and I think it’s going to be a really nice day at Pittodrie and a lot of good emotions and good spirit.”

Thelin took in St Mirren's 1-1 draw with Brann in the Conference League on Thursday.

The Buddies gaffer Stephen Robinson confessed he will have to manage his squad for the clash, but his Aberdeen counterpart isn't taking anything for granted as he praised the Paisley club's fighting spirit.

“They are a consistent team, I think they are structured really well with how they defend,” Thelin stated.

“Brann were also very good but they managed to stay in the game and they got an opportunity for an equaliser and they took it.

“In their game against Hibs, in the first half they struggled a little bit but in the second half they scored three goals. They are a team fighting to the end.

“It is going to be a challenge for sure. We need to stay humble and keep working. We have only played one game in the league.

“We have a lot of things to improve. We are going to keep trying and trying and put on a good performance.”
