This stunning image shows a hi-tech laser train - known as the ‘Flying Banana’ - passing through Dundee.
The time-lapse photo was taken by local snapper, Nik Kon, on Wednesday night.
It shows the multi-carriage train passing over the rail bridge towards Fife.
The New Measurement Train - or NMT - is run by Network Rail.
It monitors and records track condition information at speeds up to 125mph and helps locate and identify faults before they become a safety issue or affect performance.
Affectionately known as the Flying Banana due to its distinctive yellow livery, the NMT is a high-tech machine that has been in use for almost 15 years.
It is equipped with latest measurement systems, track scanners, and a high-resolution camera, and was originally an Intercity High Speed Train.
The NMT travels at 125mph and covers 115,000 miles in a year and will capture around 10TB of image data every 440 miles.
It enables Network Rail to monitor its track without the need to block railway lines.
The monitoring fleet slot between timetabled trains so there are no delays or disruption as a result of its work.
