A 12th-century church will reopen as a bar and live music venue in London Bridge later this month — complete with an original Banksy.
The new venture, named Amazing Grace, will take over the St Thomas’ Church site previously inhabited by Cantonese restaurant Duddell’s.
Promising a musical line-up of local and international talent, the venue will retain many of the Grade II-listed church’s original features, from untouched woodwork to an altar dating back to the 1700s.
One of Banksy’s artworks, Christ With Shopping Bags, will also hang within the space.
The venue will be split into three main areas: a central dancefloor, an overlooking mezzanine and an external seating area, sheltered beneath a pergola.
Mr Bao, known for serving its Taiwanese steamed buns on Peckham’s Rye Lane, will provide a range of street food from the region, from pork belly bao to dan dan noodles.
Amazing Grace is the latest opening from K&G Hospitality, the group behind two bars in Pop Brixton, as well as Hangar Bar in Hackney Wick.
Co-founder Vineet Kalra said: “We’re thrilled to be the new custodians of this iconic London space. As a team of live music fans, we’re making it our mission to bring the best talent, both local and global, to our stage in the coming months.”
