Amazing Dundee artist showcases her stunning images made from burning wood

These images show the amazing pictures burnt into wood by a super talented Dundee artist.

Ann Dawson uses special heat tools to make marks on wooden canvases and create the stunning work.

She now creates pet portraits and other commissions from people in the community and further afield in Scotland.

The technique she uses to complete the stunning work is called pyrography.

Speaking to Dundee Live, Ann told us: “I took up pyrography about 4 years ago.

“I have always had an interest in art since a child and I used to draw with pencil and pastels until I discovered burning into wood.

“I have done quite a few commission pieces, mainly a lot of pet portraits, but have also done wildlife, family members, football emblems etc.

Ann explained that Pyrography is the free handed art of decorating wood or other materials with burn marks.

This is through the controlled application of a heat tool and is often known as pokerwork or wood burning - Ann’s work is primarily on birch ply.

Talking about her inspiration, Ann added: “Animals and nature are my main focus with regards to pyrography, however most subjects including a pet portrait will be considered when it comes to commission work.”
