Amandine Henry Signs With Toluca FC In Mexican Women's Championship

New Mexico State Women's Hoops

French international and former Olympique Lyonnais midfielder, Amandine Henry, has made a significant move by signing with Toluca FC in the Mexican Women's championship, known as “La Liga BBVA MX Femenil”. This transfer marks a notable addition for Toluca, a club currently positioned 13th in the league and seeking to gain momentum.

With an impressive career record, Amandine Henry boasts 108 caps with the French national team and has participated in various international competitions, including the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics. During her time with Lyon, she played 300 matches, securing 7 Champions League titles and 14 French League titles.

Henry's journey to Toluca follows her recent departure from Utah Royals after a brief stint, adding to her list of clubs in the past few months. Prior to Toluca, she had spells at Angel City FC in the NWSL, Lille in the Arkema Première Ligue, and Utah Royals in the NWSL.

Having left Olympique Lyonnais in 2023 after a long tenure, Henry embarked on a series of moves to explore new soccer environments. Her move to Mexico signifies another chapter in her career, offering her a fresh experience in a country with a distinct soccer style.

Notably, Toluca's acquisition of Amandine Henry aligns with the club's strategy to strengthen its squad and excite fans. The Mexican Women's championship, currently featuring 18 clubs, sees Toluca placed 13th with 3 wins in 9 matchdays.

Henry joins former Lyon players Kheira Hamraoui and Aurélie Kaci, who also had stints in Mexico with Club America. While Hamraoui moved on to Saudi Arabia, Kaci remains with Club America. Additionally, Henry will reunite with Célia Bensalem, a young midfielder who previously trained at the OL Academy.

For Toluca, Henry's arrival represents a valuable addition, with the club swiftly sharing the news with their supporters on social media. This move not only enhances Toluca's squad but also contributes to the growth of women's soccer in Mexico, a nation witnessing rapid development in the sport.
