Amanda Serrano wants equality as she challenges Katie Taylor to 'make a stand' in super-fight

Amanda Serrano wants ‘equality’ in boxing after proposing that her and Katie Taylor have it out over 12 three-minute rounds on April 30.

The blockbuster super-fight is already set to be the biggest fight in women’s boxing history as the pair prepare to headline Madison Square Garden.

But Serrano is keen to go one better and do what no women have done in professional boxing - go 36 minutes just like the men.

In a momentous press conference in London, the seven-weight world champion challenged Taylor to accept the rule change.

But Taylor played down the potential change and insisted the fight is "already iconic" with 10 two minute rounds.

Currently, Women's boxing bouts are maximum of 10 rounds and just two minutes per round, whilst men's bouts are 12 rounds and three minutes each.

However making the change is something Serrano feels will promote equality between the women and men’s game.

"We want to make a stand, we want equality," Serrano explained after the initial press conference.

"It was no disrespect to Katie but I think we have the platform right now, we have the eyes (to do it).

"If we want equality why not start somewhere? I want honestly to be equal at 12 rounds and three minutes.

"We're capable of doing it and I just think, I wanted us to be the first, but now if anyone else does it they're going to say they got it from my idea.

"I'm not sure (why Taylor doesn't want to do it).

"I think it would have put the icing on the cake if we would have done it like that and showed that we're capable of doing it."
