Amanda Holden under fire as she 'couldn't be more wrong' with Paul O'Grady tribute

Amanda Holden has came under fire from fans who were confused by her tribute to Paul O'Grady.

People from the world of showbiz have been celebrating the life of the Birkenhead icon since he died on Tuesday. Amanda was friends with Paul and shared a tribute on her Heart Radio show.

She said: "You know what I loved about him? He was not woke in any way. He had massive opinions on everything." However, the description has been met with confusion as the Collins Dictionary describes "woke" as someone who is "very aware of social and political unfairness".

Paul has been lauded as a champion of the underdog as he was a huge supporter of LGBTQ+ rights and a fierce critic of the Conservative government. Fans on Twitter have taken to the social media platform and said the Britain's Got Talent judge's description was inaccurate.

In a tongue-in-cheek post, Matt said: "That’s exactly the first thing that sprung to mind when I thought of Paul O’Grady, not his love of dogs or Lily Savage or his Liverpool Socialism, but his hatred of “wokery”."

Anna responded: "Except he was"

Adam commented: "he was one of the Wokest people ever before woke was used as an insult by the right wingers x He did so much for the LGBTQ."

G Mee posted: "Omg he was the epitome of 'woke' aka socially aware and decent"

Ed tweeted: "How could anyone be more wrong on something? It’s almost as though the pejorative term “woke” is misunderstood…"

Mike added: "I’d have thought he was very socially aware, concerned, and conscious. That’s what woke means"

Amanda issued a heartfelt tribute to Paul on her Instagram channels yesterday as she shared a snap of the two together with the caption: "Woken up to this sad,sad news. I loved Paul. He was brilliantly opinionated ,searingly sharp and very funny.. I loved our conversations ..I can’t quite believe it. Thoughts with Andre and their family."
