Amanda Holden shocks Heart radio listeners by revealing she took a bath with her dog

Amanda Holden surprised Heart radio listeners by admitting she had a bath with her dog.

The presenter, 54, went to the West Wittering beach in West Sussex at the weekend, also taking her puppy Minnie for the first time - and revealed the unusual grooming routine on her Heart radio breakfast show with Jamie Theakston.

She said: “I looked at Minnie the moocher, who's my dog, and I just thought, I'm gonna put her in with me.

“I need to wash her anyway because she's covered in sand, so I took her collar off and we had a little bath together!”

While Jamie didn’t seem bothered by the confession, Amanda said the show’s producer had their “head in their hands”.

She stressed that there was no products for humans in the bath, and that she only used dog products.

She continued: "I used all her doggie shampoo, so there were no products in the bath so please don't write in. Minnie was loving it, she was living her best life.

“Then I got the dog conditioner and got a brush... why has our producer got his head in his hands?"

Amanda adopted Minnie from Battersea Dogs and Cats home in September last year.

She added that she later washed her other dog, Rudie, in the bath as well.

“Then I got out, but then I put Rudie in the bath water,” she added. “I just thought it saves a bit of bath water and then I gave him a good old scrub as well so everyone was clean and fluffy and lovely!”

Co-host Jamie Theakston then asked listeners: “Is it ever okay or is it a problem to bathe with your pets?”

At the beginning of the year, Jamie returned to the Heart breakfast show, following his cancer diagnosis in 2024.

In January, he revealed he is “cancer free”, after announcing in September that he would be taking a break from the early-morning show to give his “voice a rest”.

Audio clips were played of his colleagues, friends and family talking about his cancer diagnosis.

His wife, Sophie Siegle, said: “Hello, darling. It’s me, Sophie. When we found out you had cancer, it was wow, such a dark time”.

His son, Sidney, added: “Well done for getting through these past few months.”

After the audio was played, Amanda said: “What an amazing man you are. You really fought very hard, Jamie, you’ve kept your sense of humour, which is the most important thing, I think.

“And isn’t it wonderful? It’s a terrible thing to go through, but it’s a wonderful thing to see how many people love you.”

Also on the programme, he encouraged listeners to check themselves for signs of cancer.

“Ignoring cancer won’t beat it,” he said.

Cancer loves being ignored. It’s a coward that lives in the shadows, and I think that, if we can shine a light on that, then we can defeat the darkness.”

He continued: “If we just get ourselves checked, then stage one diagnosis, which is what I was very fortunate enough to be at, shouldn’t be a problem, but I do, I urge you to go and get checked.”
