Amanda Holden's anguish over sacrificing family time for her TV career uncovered

Amanda Holden says she worries about missing out on family life as her career demands more and more of her time.

The 50-year-old TV star is not just a radio host, TV presenter and talent show judge, but also a mum to daughters Alexa, 15, and nine-year-old Hollie, and a dedicated wife to record producer husband Chris Hughes.

Amanda and Chris tied-the-knot back in 2008 – and Amanda’s career has skyrocketed in the subsequent years after she managed to build a presenting empire that includes gigs at Heart FM and as a judge on Britain’s Got Talent.

But having a busy work schedule has meant Amanda has had to spend hours, days and weeks away from her family as filming commitments keep her busy at all hours of the day.

A source close to the star told Closer magazine that Amanda doesn’t want to sacrifice her family life in exchange for her career.

The source said: “Amanda loves her glamorous life and her kids are so proud of her.

“But she craves the small things – she’d rather be at the dinner table with them every night catching up on their day than on set in hair and make-up.

“That said, she also knows how incredibly lucky she is to have her career and an understanding family.”

The remark from the source comes after Mandy recently admitted she struggles with the work-life balance while trying to be a good role model to her daughters.

She said previously: “It’s not easy missing their bedtime or having to FaceTime school plays when I’m working away.”

While she also said: “the guilt has started to creep in.”

And revealed her husband, Chris: “waits up with a cup of peppermint tea for me before I collapse into bed.”

Closer’s source added: “Chris is her biggest cheerleader, and he can see how much she loves her job as well as her family – he never feels second best, just very proud of her.

“Despite her fears over missing her family at times, she wants to prove you can have a successful career without having to sacrifice the most important role as a wife and a mum.”

Meanwhile, Amanda is now busier than she ever has been after signing work contracts with the major TV channels in the UK.

She is the first host to hold down roles on the BBC, ITV and Channel 4 at the same time as she enjoys roles on BGT, I Can See your Voice and an upcoming surprise project on Channel 4 – which will all air within the space of a year.
