Amanda Holden left screaming during BGT semi-finals as act has viewers switching off

Amanda Holden was left screaming at one act during the Britain's Got Talent semi-finals on Tuesday night.

The 52-year-old joined fellow judges Alesha Dixon, Simon Cowell, and Bruno Tonioli as they welcome the second batch of semi-finalists to the hit ITV show. But one act in particular left Amanda, and viewers at home, feeling squeamish as sword swallower Andrew Stanton took to the stage.

Amanda was left covering her eyes and looking away through her screams as Andrew took to the stage on Tuesday night. The gruesome circus act was swallowing swords on stage before bringing up all four judges and seating them inside a car.

Andrew then pulled the wagon across the stage using stakes that were attached to his eye sockets which left viewers at home feeling nauseous. After his initial audition, Ofcom told the Mirror 71 complaints they'd received during the show "were related to a sword swallowing act".

Viewers at home were repulsed by Andrew's act, which came with a warning beforehand, as they took to Twitter during the semi-finals. One said: "Acts like this sword gobbler I physically cannot watch #BritainsGotTalent"

Another tweeted: "I actually can’t watch this. #BritainsGotTalent#BGT #BGT2023," while a third said: "I don’t want to see it again .. I had to cover my face -it was sick #BritainsGotTalent."

"Oh gosh no I couldn't watch him in the audition let alone tonight. #BritainsGotTalent#BGT2023 #BGT," someone else wrote. While another added: "#BritainsGotTalent #BGT I don’t like watching acts which are inherently dangerous, but Andrew Stanton was actually very impressive this time. More imaginative than the usual sword-swallowing."

Britain's Got Talent continues on Wednesday, May 31 at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
